Most children today end up spending a lot of time watching television, playing computer games, and goofing off on their smart phones or tablets. This can be concerning for a parent who hopes to home school their children. You may think that all you are doing is encouraging your child to spend even more time at a screen. One way that some parents have managed to have a good balance is to start implementing the Family Media Agreement.
What Is the Media Agreement?
In short, it is an agreement that you come up with that gives you and your child a happy medium. You can say that it is okay for them to go to school online for four hours a day and then thirty minutes each day doing other things. Your agreement with your child should allow them to do things that they enjoy, but you approve of.
It Is Not All About the Screen
One thing to remember, online learning is not just staring at a computer screen. There are learning opportunities that take children outside on nature hikes and book work as well. Your child may be doing school things for 5 hours in a single day and only have to spend two of those hours at a computer. They may have to spend a little more as they get older, so it does depend on their needs, but overall, it is not an all day thing.
